What is laser / light hair removal?

How does it work?

The light / laser gets absorbed in the melanin of hair follicle (the growth center of hair) and it increases the temperature to destroy the follicular cells permanently.

What areas of the body can be treated?

ALL parts of the body CAN be treated with the hair –removing laser. In women, the most common areas for treatment are upper lip, chin, bikini line, arms and legs, and under-arms. In men, the most common areas for treatment are shoulders and back, and the beard area, sometimes ear lobes. It can treat even the eye lashes and eyebrows, but needs to be careful.

Is it beneficial compared to alternative treatments?

The primary benefits of laser hair removal include: Larger areas may be treated with less discomfort than with electrolysis, waxing or tweezing. Laser hair removal offers you a long-term reduction in both the amount of hair, and also in many cases a reduction in thickness. It has been found that hair removal methods like plucking; waxing sometimes may stimulate hair growth. It is the safest & fastest amongst all the methods of permanent destruction.

What are the advantages over electrolysis?

It has been said that: “Removing hair by electrolysis is like moving grass-one blade at a time!” It is invasive technique and has side effects, as well as very time consuming because single hair is removed at a time. The operator also need special training and need long no. of sessions.

What are the risks of laser hair removal?

Short-term side effects may include a slight reddening of the skin or local swelling which typically lasts less than an hour, if post treatment instructions are not followed it may have temporary hyper pigmentation because of direct sun exposure. Unlike plucking,waxing, laser hair removal does not run the risk of making hair grow back thicker, darker or quicker. It will definitely reduce the hair count as well as thickness. It is very unlikely that it will not have any results!

Is laser hair removal “permanent”?

“Permanent hair removal” means: destroying the active hair follicle permanently. After few treatments the total number of hair follicles greatly reduced, generally by 70% to 90%. Hair which does grow, is often much finer and lighter in color. You should expect that this reduction in hair might last for many years. No. of sittings depend subjectively. The dormant hair follicles which were not in active cyclical growth will not be treated by laser and may become stimulated later by many factors like medicines, ovarian tumors etc in later time of life, these newly activated follicles will need treatment.

How can I get the best results?

To get the best results with the smallest number of treatment sessions, please pay attention to post treatment instructions and follow it strictly.

Is it painful?

You may feel a tingling or snapping sensation like a rubber band. It is definitely less than waxing and electrolysis.

Why there is a need of multiple treatments?

Because of cyclical growth of hair follicles and some % of total number of hair follicles at given site are at anagen stage we have to visit laser center cyclical till the majority of follicles are not destroyed.

The no. Of visits to laser center can range from 4-12 maximum depending on individual hair growth pattern and previous treatment methods. The doctors can fairly predict the sessions after the second treatment looking at the individual response.

The Difference between existing treatments and laser is “EVERY TREATMENT OF LASER IS DESTROYING NO. OF HAIR FOLLICLES PERMANENTLY and after some visits our skin has very few growing hair follicles at all.

Is the treatment safe?

Laser hair removal is safest of all the methods: there is no pricking of skin like electrolysis, no pain like waxing. No infections or scars.

The treatment is quickest ofall the methods. Post treatment instructions should be observed strictly.

No treatment is without side effects, also true with laser if treatment is not taken from trained operators and not selecting safe laser.

Does it have cancerous changes in the skin?

Laser is a non ionizing radiation so it does not have any changes in the normal skin cells. No change in skin texture, nor any malignant changes.


Are there restrictions on activity?

You can go directly to work after the treatment. Only avoid direct sunlight.

Is the treatment economical?

Considering the life long 4-6 weeks visits to parlors, investment of time, energy, money for nearly 18-20 years. Laser treatment is most economical.

Saving of time and energy: as you probably have to visit 3-12 sessions depending on response. Some will get 80-90% results in three; some in 5 averages is 6-7. Patients with hormonal imbalance, post electrolysis, resistant follicles etc. Needs more sessions. You are almost saving 17 years of your 3-4 weekly visits to parlors!

Saving of money: spending small amount of money every 3-4 weeks for 18-20 yrs would mount to huge total, spending little more just for few sessions will definitely be much less than any treatment available today.
